Ethno House Kochani: Tradition and Community

Ethno House Kochani is a collection of traditional Macedonian items which is exhibited here. Every item displayed has been donated by local residents, with many pieces dating back over a century. Also on display are items which have been made by local artists.

An Unexpected Introduction

I was introduced to the project through a new friendship with a Kochani local who lives in the Netherlands and visits during the summer. Her connection to the area enabled her to introduce me to this incredible space and the community behind it.

Local Craftsmanship & Vision

Inside, visitors can see impressive local craftsmanship firsthand, ranging from detailed embroidery and woven mats to beautiful crocheted bags and earrings.

Beyond serving as a cultural museum, Ethno House aims to run workshops and community initiatives. The goal is not only to encourage creativity, but to encourage mutual support and bring people together during challenging times.

A Hands-On Experience

While my daughter was visiting for the weekend, we joined a textile weaving workshop. Although we are obviously not as skilled as some! it was a genuinely fun activity. More than anything, it was a privilege to spend time with people dedicated to building a strong, supportive community in Kochani.
