Millennium Cross

The Millennium Cross Skopje

We drove through Skopje, with my granddaughter getting very excited at seeing Lions and horses – the many statues dotted around the city!

We headed up Vodno Mountain towards the Millennium Cross. Considering its one of the main tourist attractions in Skopje it is not well signposted until you get to the mountain, and then when there is no other road to take you will see signposts.

There is a car park with restaurant and a picnic area, from here you can get a cable car up the mountain to the Millennium Cross.

The tickets cost 120 denar per person equivalent to around 2 euro’s. There was no queue, the last time we were here which was a weekend in the middle of summer we waited approximately 2 minutes for a ticket and 1 minute to get on the cable car taking us up the mountain.

The views from the cable car and from the top of the mountain are on a clear day stunning.

At the top of the mountain there are picnic areas’ a small restaurant and a children’s playground.

The Millennium cross is 66-meter tall, it is one of the tallest crosses in the world and was built to commemorate 2000 years of Christianity in Macedonia. The cross can be seen from nearly all areas’ of Skopje and at night is lit up with thousands of lights.
