To the west of Skopje lies the Ski area of Mavrovo, Johan is a avid Skier and often has to ‘stay in Macedonia’ in the winter during weekends, especially when there is plenty of snow. Which fortunately for him happens regularly.
Skiing in Macedonia is on a relatively small scale, most people head towards Bulgaria where 2 hours driving from Kocani in Bansko there is a much bigger ski area.
Mavrovo is a good place to spend 4 or 5 days. There are a number of ski- slopes ranging from Blue to Black and plenty of ‘watering holes’, with the costs being very low you don’t bankrupt yourself when you stop on the slope for a light refreshment.
The February half term has become a family tradition of Johan, girls, boys, nieces, nephew and brother-in-law. I can’t keep up so don’t try. Even though they assure me after a couple of Jager-bombs I would dare even the red slope… (the blue is enough for me!)
